A lot of college students approach us for internship. We require a formal letter on the letter head of the college before starting internship with us. This letter will be reviewed before internship is allowed.
Do I need to visit Khushi centre if I want consultations only for RMT, MNRI or Therapeutic Listening?
No, you can take home programs for the same. You will have visit the centre once for the child’s evaluation. In case you stay away from Mumbai or India, then you can opt for the video appointment for your child.
Behaviour Therapy is a behaviour modification program that deals with analyzing and modifying human behavior. At Khushi, we seek to increase desirable behavior and decrease undesirable behaviour. Is it compulsory to opt for all the services that are offered by Khushi? Can we opt for only selective services?
You can opt for selective services. You need not opt for all the services that Khushi offers.
Yes, we guide the parents so that they can work with their child at home as well. Child improves faster when parents understand therapy methods and follow the home program.
The following documents would be required:
Bank statement of the past 6 months.
IT returns forms.
Electricity bills/ bills.
After submission of documents, we have a meeting with both parents and decide on the percentage of sponsorship the child will receives. It is evaluated and reviewed in the beginning of each financial year.
Ms. Reena Singh evaluates the child and makes the therapy goals with the treating therapist and the parent.
Goals are reviewed after every 30 sessions/ one and a half month (whichever is earlier) with the therapist. New goals are made by Ms. Reena Singh, the treating therapist and the parent.
If the goals are met earlier, then an observation session is organized before 30 sessions with Reena Singh. These observation sessions of setting new goals are included in the regular fee structure of the therapy program.
If required, she does take few sessions (which are charged separately) for out station parents who cannot come to Khushi.
She also offers video sessions for parents for home program sessions.
The frequency of therapies depend on the child and his needs. A child can come for
Individual program – 2-3 times in a week.
Intensive program – 1 hour daily, 5 days a week(Mon-Fri).
Children and adults with developmental disabilities may have a dysfunctional sensory system or SPD (Sensory Processing Disorder). In other words, their sensory system is not able to receive proper signals from their surroundings. Their system could be either under or over reactive to the inputs that they receive from their surroundings.
Sensory integration helps in better functioning of an individual’s sensory system. It helps the sensory system to receive the right stimulation from its environment.

What is Sensory Integration?
If the goals are not met in 30 sessions, then we either simplify the goals for the child or continue with the same goals with few modifications depending on the current condition of the child.
All the therapeutic methods and approaches are explained to the parents at Khushi. The experts at Khushi suggest which approach/approaches will benefit their child the most. The final call is of the parent. The parents decide what is most favorable for them.
How many types of assessments are required? Do I need to meet all different specialists before coming to Khushi?
At Khushi, we assess the child by parent interview, non-standardized evaluation and observation of behavior of your child. The experts at Khushi will guide you to get a formal assessment if they feel the need for it.
It is not compulsory to meet many specialists before starting therapies and depends on each child.
Generally, a Developmental Pediatrician or a Pediatric Neurologist refers the child or the patient for therapies. Sometimes the school counseling team can also suggest the child to go for therapies.
You will have to meet Ms. Reena Singh. She is a trained Occupational Therapist and the founder of Khushi Pediatric Therapy Centre and the owner of Khushi therapy centre.
The parent, the treating therapist and Reena Singh sit together, discuss and collectively decide the monthly goals for the child based on evaluation, parent interview and observation of the child’s behavior during informal play.
We recruit people who have minimum experience of 1 year of working with special kids.
We don’t take freshers.
I live far from Khushi centers’ locations, is there any option for home programs? Are there any online consultations as well? What is the follow-up procedure, if I opt for home program?
Yes, we offer home programs. It’s suggested to meet Reena Singh with your child in the first consultation. However, if this is not possible, we try to understand the child through his parents on the video call. Follow up is usually needed every 15 days or a month depending on the child. All the follow-up sessions are chargeable.
Our physiotherapists and occupational therapists are registered with the Maharashtra State OTPT Council. They are also registered with the All India Occupational therapy association and All India Physiotherapy Association.
The special educators and counselors at our centre are registered with RCI.
Primitive reflexes are a group of reflexes which develop during life in the womb, are fully developed at birth in the full term baby (40 weeks) and are gradually inhibited and transformed into more mature patterns and postural abilities during the first six months of postnatal life.
Primitive reflexes can remain active if there has been damage to higher centres in early life, such as cerebral palsy, or if there is accident or damage to higher brain centres in later life, for example after a stroke, head injury or in degenerative diseases of the central nervous system, such as multiple sclerosis or Alzheimer’s disease. According to medical theory, primitive reflexes should not remain active in the general population beyond six months of age, and if elicited beyond this age are usually considered to be indicative of underlying pathology.

Yes, we have a lot of students who approach us for the same. We need a letter from the college describing the details before they can start with us.
Therapeutic Listening is an individualized program to help kids enhance their listening capabilities. It was developed by an Occupational therapist Sheila Frick. This program uses sound stimulation in combination with sensory integrative treatment techniques, emphasizing vestibular stimulation and postural and movement strategies. Therapeutic listening can be provided by a certified provider only.
Few therapists at Khushi are certified in therapeutic listening and provide professional guidance for participating in the protocol.

We allow volunteers who have no prior experience but wish to help kids with Autism or individuals at Khushi.
Such volunteers help in becoming buddies to teenagers who have autism.
We offer sponsorship. We believe every child must receive the therapy and opportunities to grow and develop.
Evaluation and treatment of basic sensory integrative processes is performed in the therapy session. Any therapist who is trained in sensory integration can use its methods for SI.
How do we start with therapies at Khushi? What happens when we come for the first session to Khushi?
When you come for a first visit to us, it will be about taking history and understanding the needs of your child- the strengths and the challenges of your child.
We have a personal information form which you will be required to fill in before you meet with the therapist at Khushi. This form helps us to save time so that we can straightaway work with your child and start evaluation instead of taking the medical history and other personal information which can be filled in the form by you. However, if some points are missed out, then those need to be filled by the therapist during the session. Before your scheduled session, you can ask the admin to email the form to you which you can fill and get it along.
It is recommended that you arrive on time for the scheduled appointment. This is because a fixed time is allotted to you and the next time slot is allocated to the child after you. If you arrive late, we may not be able to accommodate you as the time pressure is created. Also, at least 45 minutes to an hour is needed to be able to evaluate and assess the child. When you arrive late, the assessment gets shorter which will affect the quality of treatment that we provide. And for us, the quality of treatment provided is of utmost importance. So, it will be great to see you at the time that you have been given the appointment.
You will be explained about the various approaches that your child will need at Khushi post the non-standardized evaluation and observation of your child.
If your child can understand all that we are talking and if we are going to be discussing concerns, then, it is preferred that both parents come. This will help because one parent can wait out with the child and engage him while the other can discuss concerns with us. We do not recommend discussing concerns in front of the child.
It will be wonderful if you can take an appointment when your child has slept well and eaten well. And at a time when he is in a fresh mood.
Also, it is important to make your child wear track pants and T-shirts for therapy instead of jeans and shirts. Jeans and shirts restrict the movement. This will mask the evaluation and may give wrong results.
Some evaluations cannot be done on a full stomach, so it is advisable that you take an appointment after at least an hour of lunch or breakfast.
After the assessment the coordinator of the Centre will get back to you with slots available for therapy prescribed. The coordinator will also clear any other doubts you have regarding starting therapy.
Yes, parents or guardian are allowed to sit inside during therapy session.

If the child is referred by the school or if the child is in higher class and has problems in coping with academics, then it is required to bring the child’s school notebooks as well.
RMT is a short form for Rhythmic Movement training. When the rhythmic movements are given, it helps to develop connections in the brain which were not developed before. These movements help in linking the different parts of the brain with each other which helps in efficient functioning of the brain. It also helps to integrate primitive reflexes.

A lot of times we have kids who cannot afford therapies. We look for people who can sponsor the therapies for such kids for at least 6 months to one year.
Occupational therapy sessions are generally taken by a qualified Physiotherapist or a qualified Occupational therapist. Behavioral Therapy sessions are taken by professionals who hold a degree in psychology or special education.
I am a MBA/PhD/Post. Graduate/Graduate student. I need to interact with kids/parents at Khushi for my research or project work. Is there an option available?
Yes, we are often approached by such students who wish to interact with parents and kids at Khushi. We will need a letter from your college asking for the same which will be reviewed. You will also need to sign a document claiming that you will maintain the privacy and confidentiality of the people who you interact with at Khushi.

What is Sensory processing disorder

Neuro– represents the central nervous system and neural pathways used to take in and send out information from and to various parts of the body.
Sensori– represents the sensory system
Motor– represents the motor response system
Reflex– a conscious or unconscious behavior occurring in response to a change.
Integration– The act of being able to bring together sensory motor functions in useful, functional level of performance when needed.
It is one of the reflex integration program that we use at Khushi.
It depends on the child and the severity of the child’s condition. It can vary from 6 month to a few years. Every child is different and so the time span of therapies for every child varies.
Generally after 30 sessions the goals are discussed again and revised (with the help of Reena Singh). But if the goals are met earlier, then we organize an observation session again with Reena Singh to set new goals.
Occupational therapy is a method to get a person back to their occupation by either training them. However if function is not possible by direct intervention then we use compensatory strategies or compensatory devices and making a person functionally independent- be it a child or an adult.
Occupational therapy practitioners enable people of all ages to live life to its fullest by helping them promote health, and prevent—or live better with—injury, illness, or disability.
Common occupational therapy interventions include helping children with disabilities to participate fully in school and social situations, helping people recovering from injury to regain skills, and providing supports for older adults experiencing physical and cognitive changes.

What is Occupational Therapy
It is not necessary that every OT will know sensory integration methods. A therapist needs to be qualified and trained in sensory integration and only then can he/she practice or include SI in their therapy sessions.
Similarly there are certifications for MNRI, RMT and Therapeutic Listening. Unless a therapist is certified in these methods, he or she cannot practice and cannot guide the parents for the same.
At Khushi, we combine various therapy approaches so that the child improves at a fast pace.
There are a lot of parents who do these certification courses to understand their child better. Unless the parent is a therapist, it is not advisable to take consultations from them regarding these methods. A parent’s knowledge is limited to that of his/her child. A therapist interacts with a variety of patients and has a better understanding of how to these methods will benefit any other child.
The fees for an assessment would be Rs 1700/- for an hour and Rs 850/- for half an hour.
The fee for video sessions for parents not based in Mumbai is Rs.2200 for an hour or Rs.1100 for half an hour.
The fees for individual therapy session is Rs. 1000/- per session.
