Safe and Sound Protocol
The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) is an auditory intervention protocol based on Dr. Porges’ Polyvagal Theory.
It is derived from nearly four decades of research on the relationship between the autonomic nervous system and social-emotional processes.
It has been shown in peer reviewed research to help increase the vagal regulation of the heart which helps with better self regulation.
After listening to the music, the listener is able to process speech related frequencies better and thus focus more on the human voice and filter out irrelevant frequencies. It also helps in soothing and self regulation.
Research has shown significant results in the following areas
- Auditory sensitivities
- Social and emotional difficulties
- Anxiety and trauma related issues
- Inattention
